Startups- The New Magic Word For Today’s Generation

03 Dec Startups- The New Magic Word For Today’s Generation

India is in the midst of a social change. While parents and the older generation are still of the view that MBA is one of the most sought after degree and the best job to land is that in a well-known MNC with a 6 figure salary from day one, the youth is of a different mind-set.

Gone are the days when IIM pass-outs gave a nod to the high corporate life and this year’s data suggests that they are now rushing to join e-commerce companies and start-ups with a 120%  increase in the number of offers coming startups which paving the way for a huge change.

Well the “startup” wave isn’t just a rage with IIM pass-outs but the youth in general are slowly accepting this new trend after tremendous success stories of entrepreneurs have started flooding the headlines.

Be it TaxiforSure which was started in 2011 revolutionising the transportation industry which is close to earn a revenue of 100 crore by the end of fiscal year 2015 or Snapdeal which has now become one of India’s leading online marketplaces with over 20 million members, entrepreneurs around the country are taking a leap of faith and partnering up with their college buddies to do “something different”.

What acts as a motivation to other aspiring entrepreneurs is seeing the mammoth success startups have gained in the past years. Just take an example of these five startups-  Flipkart, Snapdeal, Quikr, Ola Cabs and InMobi- which have slowly but steadily entered the billion dollar club! They too were just ideas in the brains of people like you and me but they took the brave step to make their dream a reality!

Another startup which has slowly revolutionised the business front is CashKaro.com which partnered with over 500+ retailers to bring customers the benefit of coupons as well as Cashback. It is India’s leading website which has picked up huge momentum amongst the masses for its ability to give back customers a little added bonus in the form of Cashback. Started by Rohan and Swati Bhargava, CashKaro.com has shown a momentous growth of 1000% and is responsible for 10-15% sales of the ecommerce websites it has partnered with.

It is India’s only externally funded Cashback site with renowned partners like Amazon.in, Flipkart, Snapdeal, and many more to satisfy a host of customers who come online looking for ways to save money and pocket every penny they can. It has a very time saving feature of price comparison which allows users to compare prices of their favourite products across different brands and make their pick and it ensures they get the best deal providing value for money.

A recent story hit the headlines of how Manshuk Lal Pratapji, an ordinary tea peddler who failed his 10th board, made an extra ordinary entrepreneurial journey by making everyday items like refrigerators, pressure cookers, water dispensers all out of clay and now has a turnover of 45 lac and a staff of 35 workers. This is a true example of sheer will and determination that one does not require formal education for a business to work. You just need a good idea you believe in and the gut to implement it even if it means defying society’s so called rules and standards.

It is not easy to give up a sure shot job at a leading MNC giving you salary every month and a brand name on your resume to follow a dream others often ridicule but it is imperative to remember that faith can move mountains. If you feel you have an idea that can change lives, trust your instinct for those who dare are the ones who get to relish the sweet taste of success and accomplishment!
