01 Dec Robert Plumb Project: Clear Vision Of Exterior Design Excellence
The name of this company is Robert Plumb, but that is only a well-devised brand name, coming from the tool called ”plumb bob“ – a heavy pointed tool, hanging on a string. It serves as a vertical reference point in the construction niche.
The real person standing behind the Robert Plumb Company is William Dangar – a landscape designer, who has become a popular name of the Australian furniture design over the last few years. His initial business idea came from the fact that at one point he realized there were no first-class, well-crafted letterboxes on the Australian market.
Also, he noticed a lack of high-quality robust furniture. So, in 2006 he founded Robert Plumb. Since then, he has produced a long string of highly appreciated furniture products. This is why in 2011, Dangar decided to add another design feature to Robert Plumb – Robert Plumb Projects. This new enterprise provides construction services and exterior design solutions for commercial businesses and private homes. Since its foundation, the Project has been winning attention of a growing number of clients, mostly restaurants and hotels.
When somebody is hired to redesign a 5-star hotel next to the Sydney Harbour Bridge, no further evidence is needed to prove the quality of their work. The Pier One Hotel is situated in the central part of the Rocks district, in the very heart of Sydney. It has a long history of different functions, but since 1999 it has been a cutting-edge hotel with a mind-boggling view of the Sydney Harbour.
What made Robert Plumb a perfect design option for this project was the passion that William Dangar has for solid timber furniture, which was needed for the main reception area of the Pier One Hotel. Since its position and the view of Sydney from the outdoor platform are two important advantages of this hotel, the owners wanted Dangar’s furniture to fill the platform next to the reception. That way they have ensured that their guests have first-class, comfortable furniture pieces along the pier for their leisure time.
The Greenwood Hotel
The Greenwood Hotel represents another well-known place in Sydney. It has been a favorite hotel of Sydneysiders and visitors for many decades. It 2014, it was bought by The Balman Pub Group and the new owner wanted to give this classic Sydney venue a new coat of paint and a breath of fresh air. This is why they hired William Dangar and his Robert Plumb Project crew to revive the outdoor area of the Greenwood Hotel. Although the primary function of the hotel is serving meals and drinks at day time, the new business strategy included the idea of turning the dining area into a lounge area at night time.
The Robert Plumb Project team made a special arrangement, consisting of high bar tables and robust chairs, stools and picnic tables. Also, the podium was given new tiles, combining black, white and grey colors. It had to be given a touch of classic and serious design, since hundreds of businesspeople from the North Sydney offices come for their lunch breaks here. Finally, this area was visually and physically separated from other parts with a line of sun shades and potted plants.
The Bucket List
One of the most popular and vibrant restaurant on Bondi Beach, the Bucket List engaged Robert Plumb Project to create their outdoor platform into an energizing and attractive area. The Plumb designers first wanted to increase the number of seats, since every restaurant owner likes when they get more room for their guests. Also, the beach weather conditions were an additional challenge for William Dangar and his team.
With all this in mind, they designed and produced large picnic tables and seats made of timber wood, so that those items would be able to stand all the harsh weather conditions. The furniture is fixed, so that the owners and staff do not have to remove the items, but they are safe and sound overnight. By applying their design visions and techniques, Robert Plumb Project experts gave the Bucket List a fresher look, more appropriate to its beach surroundings and the type of guests they want to attract.
When the London Hotel managers contacted Robert Plumb Project, they only gave them a short brief that the place has to be changed, so that it becomes a real dining restaurant and not only a bar. With that notion in their heads, William Dangar and his designers started working on the interior and exterior areas of this remarkable Sydney venue.
Every new client is a new set of demands and desires, which is why Mr. Dangar always applies a personalized approach to every new task. This time he decided to enrich the interior part, i.e. its southern wall, with a line of booth seating. Then, on the eastern wall he placed a long seat for banquettes. This seating extended all the way to the yard, where the designer opted for separate tables and chairs. The back part of the yard was enriched with ivy and a planter. Finally, the interior was finished with white tables, as well as black and white fabrics for the seating and chairs.
The list of bars and restaurants that Robert Plumb Project redecorated or designed from scratch is much longer. They keep working in several fields. Robert Plumb Company as a whole remains the leading producer of letterboxes in Australia, with a network of more than 50 distributors. William Dangar runs both enterprises in a professional and innovative way, which should ensure that they remain the design household name in the years ahead.
